Several languages are going into extinction. The Yoruba Language must be taught to the next generation to prevent such fate. We have so many people of Yoru descent all over the world whose children has never and may never learn the language or understand the culture. People often wonder how easy it is to learn the language and my answer is very simple: once you are passionate about learning the Yoruba language, it's the easiest to learn. Among all the languages spoken in Nigeria, Yoruba is the easiest to learn to read and write. Behind learning the language is an amazing world of values and traditions that is based on Love, Integrity, Equity and Justice. I was born and raised in a part of Nigeria where Yoruba was spoken by all, and we hardly communicated in English. Yoruba was taught in our schools, right from kindergarten to the final year of high school, and encouraged by parents as a daily means of communication. I recently earned my Law degree from Ekiti state University and while I was in school, I taught piano lessons as the church keyboardist and also taught my boyfriend at the time how to speak Yoruba as he wanted to impress my parents when he visited them (He is Igbo). The language is honestly easy to learn considering how over the years it has evolved to adopt a lot of English words into her dictionary. The basics are literally the key to mastering the language. Learning should take you about 2 to 3 months for basic knowledge. However, we never stop learning, even though I am still learning.
