Am born, raised and bred in Mombasa, Kenya.. I have been using swahili all my life in all circumstances and I believe since Swahili is a rapidly growing language around the world and soon to be passed as the Africa's continental language, its my priviledge to help people learn from it and become part of the process altogether.. I went to school till my college part. Swahili is an easy language full of emotion and happiness as presented by the Swahili speaking people all over the world.. Like any other language, the start sounds Alienish but s soon as you utter your first Swahili word, there will be no looking back. Its easier to learn and practise as you feel relaxed and submerged into its charm..

I'm a passionate graduate interested in interacting with individuals of different backgrounds through learning and teaching languages. I'm a Swahili native speaker whilst English is a my second language. I'm a recent graduate in Education Administration and Management at Universidade Pedagógica of Mozambique. Before joining University (in 2013), I used to teaching various English and Swahili languages to secondary school students and adult learners for three years. I also master Portuguese Language as I undertook my University studies in Mozambique prior learning the language. Portuguese was the medium of instruction. I have gained different skils and methodos from my experience of learning and teaching various languages. I recommend learning Swahili as it's the most spoken and widely growing African language. Swahili is now spoken in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Susan, South Sudan, Congo, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Comoros Islands. Learning Swahili is easy as its alphabet is same as of English, only that the q and x letters do not make part of it. For any one interested in learning Swahili, it will take one month to gain basic knowledge of the language like greetings, introduction, farewell, simple communication like asking for direction, prices of goods and services etc. The language can be mastered in about 4 to 6 months of learning. As a native speaker and experienced teacher I can help one speak the language depending on the needs. I believe in diversity offered by various cultural and historical backgrounds. I hope to contribute to enrich such diversity. Thanks

Habari! Karibu sana! I am John, a native Tanzanian raised in both Mombasa (Kenya) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania). With over 20 years of experience teaching Kiswahili to learners of all ages, I bring a deep, native-level understanding of both written and spoken Swahili, enriched by firsthand cultural immersion in East Africa’s coastal communities. I also teach French, Arabic, and Spanish, languages widely spoken among tourists and locals in Mombasa, adding a practical, multilingual dimension to my lessons. What I Offer I specialize in tailored, efficient, and culturally rich language training designed for real-world use. My approach is relaxed yet structured, enabling students at any level to learn quickly and retain what they’ve learned. I provide all reading and audio materials, while students bring their writing notebooks. Lessons blend conversation, grammar, and culture in a supportive, engaging environment. ✅ Exams & Certifications Prepared: + KCSE Kiswahili & KCE A-Level + KSL (Kiswahili as a Second Language) + IB Kiswahili (initio, SL, HL) + IGCSE Kiswahili Uwezo wa Kukimu na Kuimarisha Lugha ya Kiswahili - Capacity for Assessing and Strengthening Kiswahili - Proficiency Certificates (A, B, C) Tanzania National Certificates: Tamthilia ya Hisia za Kiswahili - Kiswahili Emotional Theatre) and Ufundi wa Kuongoza Shughuli za Kiswahili - Skills for Leading Kiswahili Activities. • Special Purpose Kiswahili: For diplomats, military personnel, airline staff, and maritime professionals • Business Kiswahili: For career efficiency, new opportunities, and relationships with Kiswahili-speaking clients and stakeholders • Social Kiswahili: For travel, socializing, and conversations with family and friends ✅ Who I Teach: Most of my students come from: + International school students (IGCSE, IB, SAT) + Local secondary & university students + Adults & professionals relocating or working in Kenya/Tanzania + Tourists, expatriates, and culture enthusiasts + Corporate clients & NGOs ✅ How do we start? Typically, we begin with a brief discussion to understand your learning goals, your sources of motivation, and your preferences. For non-beginners, I will conduct a simple assessment of reading, listening, and speaking to accurately target your needs. Based on this, I will create a personalized curriculum for you. Everyone has different abilities and needs in language learning, so I use my unique methods to ensure your lessons are effective, engaging, and enjoyable. ✅ What method do I use? Swahili is an amalgamation on many strong local and international languages, its history is very important in quickly learning the language. I do not use conventional methods or textbooks (unless you prefer to). Through my teaching experience, I have found that most available materials are often too slow and lack proper focus. Therefore, I have developed special materials for my students, designed to be efficient and comprehensible. In short, my instruction is tailored to your needs; I emphasize what is essential and omit what is not. I also incorporate engaging cultural elements to make learning easy and fun. ✅ How long does it take and what is a reasonable duration? It depends on your goal: Level 1 (Beginner): If you want to travel to Mombasa or the Kenyan coast for a week, you need between 30-40 hours. This enables you to greet, shop, and understand basics. Level 2 (Intermediate): If you want to speak with family, friends, or participate in everyday conversations with Kenyans, you need 40-60 hours (after Level 1). Level 3 (Upper-Intermediate): If you plan to live in Kenya, work in a Kiswahili-using environment, or express your ideas and feelings, you need 40-80 hours (after Level 2). Level 4 (Proficiency): If you need to study at a Kenyan university, work in a role requiring fluency, or relocate for work, you need 70-150 hours (after Level 3). This timeframe is indicative only and is based on my teaching method and experience. It varies depending on your motivation, memory, ability to synthesize elements, class frequency, and time spent on homework. ✅ How to start? I invite you to book two lessons first to evaluate my method and understand how I conduct a class. Then, you can proceed with more lessons if you like it. ✅ My Promise You will learn in a relaxed, enjoyable manner—yet master the language in 10 days what might take others 60. My method focuses on essential communication, cultural context, and confidence-building, ensuring you not only learn faster but also learn better. ✅ Student Testimonial – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating “Mr. John has proved to be an excellent teacher. First, he carefully checks what knowledge level the student already possesses. Only then does he take into account what the student wants, but not without constantly freshening up and, if necessary, correcting the student's previously acquired skills and knowledge. The teaching happens in a friendly but fairly demanding way. Every lesson normally starts with a quick test of what was taught the lesson before. Very often, the teacher refers to the general cultural background and history of the language, which facilitates and enriches the learning process considerably. I would definitely recommend Mr. John since he really knows how to motivate his students and make them feel more self-confident. This enables them to keep on seeing and enjoying the linguistic richness of Swahili.” ✅ Frequently Asked Questions How easy is it to learn Swahili in Mombasa? Mombasa is the best place to learn Swahili. The culture, the people, and the environment are soaked in the language—making learning intuitive and immersive. It’s also an ideal setting for picking up Arabic, French, and Spanish due to the city’s rich multilingual heritage. What is the easiest way to learn Swahili in Mombasa? Practice speaking while immersing yourself in Mombasa’s culture and Swahili cultural context. Combine structured lessons with real-life interaction—markets, cafes, local events—and learning becomes natural and rapid. 📚 Free Learning Resources As part of my collaboration with the Centre for Creative Economies, Culture, Heritage and Media Transformation (C-CHMT) under CrystalPerk International Research and Management Institute (CIRMI) www. crystalperk . com, I’m pleased to offer exclusive Kiswahili learning materials: ✔ Downloadable vocabulary sheets & grammar guides ✔ Cultural immersion eBooks ✔ Audio practice clips for listening comprehension ✔ Sample exam papers & answer keys ✔ Access free resources here: CIRMI Language & Culture Portal 🏛️ In Partnership With This training is delivered in support of the Department of Language and Culture at CIRMI, promoting multilingualism, cultural preservation, and communicative excellence across East Africa.
