Formal Filipino is much harder to learn since the words are a lot deeper, and are rarely used. Except for when you are in the academe or legal industry. I believe it’s easier to learn Filipino when you have a Spanish background. However, unlike other languages Filipino only assigns gender to people. This applies both to written and oral.
