Hi, I'm Merit! I've been teaching Estonian for seven years, helping students of all levels master the language with confidence. My journey began at a university in Paris, where I taught for five years before transitioning to private online lessons. I hold a master’s degree in French language and educational science, as well as another in computational linguistics. As a co-author of an Estonian language learning book, I bring both academic expertise and practical teaching experience to my lessons. I'm also experienced in preparing students for national exams. My teaching style is all about adapting to you—whether you prefer structured grammar explanations or a more conversational approach. I specialize in making complex topics easy to understand and have extensive experience helping students who want to focus on speaking fluently. If you're ready to start your Estonian learning journey, I'd love to help! I can have classes in French and English.

Hello! I have experience teaching languages to children and adults. My learning style requires communication and a student-centered learning pace. The most important thing is the student's own desire to learn, willingness to do so, and an open mind. Estonian is a very beautiful language and learning it is a real pleasure. It's not a widely spoken language, but that makes learning it even more luxurious. Language learning depends on what the student needs it for, but the first knowledge can be gained after a few meetings.

My name is Eliis. I am a native Estonian speaker living in the countryside, surrounded by nature — a place that gives me peace and inspiration. I have a passion for languages and communication, and I truly enjoy helping others learn and grow. In my free time, I enjoy playing disc golf, exploring new places through travel, and learning about cars — both modern innovations and classic designs. I have an active lifestyle and love spending time outdoors, especially during the summer, which is my favorite season. I also genuinely enjoy meeting new people and building meaningful connections, which makes tutoring a natural fit for me. As a tutor, I bring patience, positivity, and a clear communication style. Whether you’re just beginning or looking to advance your Estonian skills, I’m here to support your journey in a friendly and encouraging way. I look forward to helping students discover the beauty of the Estonian language and culture! — From an Estonian’s perspective, our language is quite logical, but we understand it can be hard for foreigners. The grammar is very different from most Indo-European languages, especially with 14 cases and many word forms. Still, it’s not impossible — with time and practice, it becomes much easier. Estonians often recommend immersion — listening to how people actually speak, watching Estonian TV, using language apps and speaking with locals. Practical exposure helps more than just memorizing grammar rules. I wouldn’t call Estonian easy, but it’s not the hardest language either. Pronunciation is relatively straightforward (everything is pronounced as it’s written), and once you understand the system of endings and word formation, it starts to make sense. Still, many learners find the grammar and vocabulary challenging at first. Is it difficult to learn Estonian? Yes and no. It depends on your background. For example, Finnish speakers learn Estonian quite easily because the languages are related. But if your native language is English or Spanish, it might be more difficult at first due to unfamiliar grammar structures. If you study regularly and practice actively, you can reach a basic level in about 6–12 months. Conversational fluency might take 1–2 years. To speak like a native or write fluently, it usually takes several years, but most Estonians are impressed and supportive even if you just try.

TUTOROO is a website that connects you with private, in-person language tutors. We now work with 350,000 tutors in more than 160 cities. We match genuine native speakers with people who want to enhance their conversational skills in any language at their preferred place and time.
The most difficult part in learning a foreign language is the practice, which can be acquired only by conversing with a native speaker. For people willing to practice foreign languages, it is difficult to find a private language tutor who lives or works in their city. TUTOROO has been designed to provide a frictionless experience while connecting tutors to students, for private in-person language lessons.
