Hi there! I'm Hidde. Born and raised in Rotterdam, studied in Leiden (Bio-pharma) and moved to Amsterdam to experience the startup environment. I have been tutoring for 4 years in Den Haag at the highest level and have always enjoyed it to help and teach people. As some friends of mine are foreign, I have some experience in teaching the Dutch language. I enjoy re-inventing my own language, because it presents the opportunity to stand still and realise the Dutch language can be quite weird from time to time. From my friends experience I can say: the only way to learn dutch is to speak dutch in a nice environment.
Dutch is a hard language to learn, for sure. I think every language is hard at first. But do not let this discourage you. I am convinced that everyone is able to learn a language, as long as you live in an environment where this language is spoken. The hardest part about Dutch is the vast amount of exceptions to the rule. Rather than learning these exceptions by hard, I believe you have to 'feel' them over the course of time. Making misstakes isn't a problem, as long as one can understand what you are trying to say. I believe this is the first step. if we reach this step, improvements will only be a matter of time.
To be completely honest, I wouldn't know. I have seen people learn the basics in months. I believe that if you are persistent, you will be able to make super fast progress. The only way to learn is to speak :)
