(Only Available for Online Lessons) Hi there! Are you interested in learning or improving Mandarin?
I will be happy to help you!
First of all, let me tell you about myself. I am a friendly Singaporean girl who loves cultural exchanges and dreams of travelling the world.
I have interest in my mother tongue language even though English is the official working language in Singapore. I studied at one of the 11 Special Assistance Plan (SAP) secondary schools here which gave me plenty of opportunities to deepen my appreciation for Chinese culture. i.e. Chinese calligraphy, wushu, tea ceremony, exchange programs to China. Fun! :-)
Why should you consider me to be your Mandarin tutor-friend?
1. Mandarin proficiency
I am comfortable with conversational Mandarin as I speak it at home. I have attained A1 for Higher Chinese in my GCE O-Level examination. I was pretty good at writing argumentative essays and some of my work were featured as model essays for my classmates.
2. Effectively bilingual
Besides Mandarin, I am proficient at English. I represented my school at the National Secondary Schools Translation Competition twice. I believe my greatest strength to be in grasping the nuances of words, especially with the variety of similar words in Mandarin that may confuse learners who lack contextual exposure.
3. International experience
I have taught beginner Mandarin to friends from other countries, some starting from no knowledge at all. (Let's master Pin Yin together!) I also learned basic Korean and Japanese so I can point out their interesting similarities with Mandarin if you are of that background.
4. Creative, flexible teaching style
I like to take a creative approach to things, teaching included! I will take inspiration from anything related to deliver an enriching lesson. e.g. pop songs, customs, slangs, etc
5. Tutor-friend
Those whom I have taught describe me as a kind, patient and dedicated teacher. More than being a tutor, I hope to be a friend who will provide a personalised learning experience with your interests at heart.
Thank you for reading!
I think we will be a great fit if you are either (1) a foreigner/non-Chinese local who wants to learn Mandarin and Chinese culture or (2) a student taking Chinese who wants to naturally improve your results.
It is absolutely easier when you have a POSITIVE atittude towards the language. Learn to see the beauty in it before anything else. I observe that many young Singaporeans lament about how hard Chinese is, which shapes a highly self-defeating attitude. One thing I can do is to lift you out of that mindset which is unconducive for learning if you are a student.
Perhaps a few months for a crash course!
