Private Cantonese Tutor in Hong Kong and Online

Hi, learners! I am a certified TCSOL Chinese teacher. I am a native speaker of Cantonese in Hong Kong, able to help you in all aspects of learning and perfecting Cantonese.

After graduation from PolyU majoring in Bilingual Studies, I started my freelance language teaching career. Besides, I have a good connection with National Museum of Beijing and Zhejiang University. My academic interests are Speech Therapy and Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Learners from kids to adults also love my classes. My students are from America, Britain, China, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, The Philippines, Thailand, Iran, India, Pakistan and more. As a language lover, I can speak Cantonese, English, Mandarin, Japanese and some Urdu. Right now, I am also a co-organizer of a digital salon on Discord.

My favorite authors are Charles Dickens, Conan Doyle, Virginia Woolf, Margaret Atwood, Haruki Murakami, Bruce Lee, Jin Yong, Ni Kuang, Zhou Youguang, Roald Dahl, Roger Hargreaves and J.K Rowling. My interests are reading, writing, drawing Pastel Nagomi Art, making beeswax flowers, playing with candles and preserved flowers, playing with origami, listening to pop songs, singing, hiking, cycling, watching martial art movies and Marvel Movies. My favorite singers are Leslie Cheung, Jay Chou, Beyond, Mr. Children, Westlife, Linkin Park, Yui, Marie Digby, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Bianca Wu, Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff, Michelle Branch, Esmee Denters and Shahzoda. My favorite dramas are Lizzy McGuire, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lily Franky’s Tokyo Tower. My favorite character is Bei Ka Chiu, Cantonese Pikachu, who was killed by Mandarin Pikachu in 2016. My favorite song is Ekin Cheng’s Automatic Victory Let’s Fight (Theme Song of Digimons).

More to tell, I got an A+ in the subject of Written Communications, which was about reading all the books of Professor Zhou Youguang. Since I needed to learn the scripts from all over the world when I was a freshman, I listened many songs on YouTube to kill boredom. More difficulties, more love. In my experience, listening a lot of pop songs is a key to learn languages.

Dr. Charlie Zhao, who comes from Beijing, is one of my students. He graduated from UC Berkeley. When I met him, Charlie was still a teacher for master degree in Public Policy in CityU. He had been living in HK for 5 years and was still waiting for his permanent residency. However, he couldn’t speak Cantonese. For his career prospect, he decided to spend at least twice a week with me. After six months, he could even use popular idioms like local young people. More importantly, he can have a better presentation in Cantonese in his new workplace in the field of financial services. Right now, Charlie becomes “a real HongKonger”. Finally, he can be brave to apply for governmental positions which require Cantonese fluency.

Besides, I am also a collaborator of Translate For Her-THEM and HKSKH Lady MacLehose Center for voluntary language education in order to help EM people from underprivileged class better integrate into HK society. I believe that what I am doing is creating a better world and a better HK with love, hope, fairness and happiness.
