Born and raised speaking Afrikaans, I love the language and burst with pride when someone learns it and succeeds in speaking it! I’m patient because I know what it’s like to try and learn a new language. Sometimes it just takes a little more time and patience, but once you get it, it’s life-changing. I have a child who went to an English school while not speaking a single word of English, and I moved them to an Afrikaans school two years later. After two years of them speaking only English (myself included), it was a shock to the system for them to learn Afrikaans. However, with hard work and determination, the correct Afrikaans words are now being used. We are just still working on sentence structure, but with patience and hard work, we will succeed!
