✅ How do we start?
Typically, we begin with a brief discussion to understand your learning goals, your sources of motivation, and your preferences. For non-beginners, I will conduct a simple assessment of reading, listening, and speaking to accurately target your needs. Based on this, I will create a personalized curriculum for you. Everyone has different abilities and needs in language learning, so I use my unique methods to ensure your lessons are effective, engaging, and enjoyable.
✅ What method do I use?
Swahili is an amalgamation on many strong local and international languages, its history is very important in quickly learning the language. I do not use conventional methods or textbooks (unless you prefer to). Through my teaching experience, I have found that most available materials are often too slow and lack proper focus. Therefore, I have developed special materials for my students, designed to be efficient and comprehensible. In short, my instruction is tailored to your needs; I emphasize what is essential and omit what is not. I also incorporate engaging cultural elements to make learning easy and fun.
✅ How long does it take and what is a reasonable duration?
It depends on your goal:
Level 1 (Beginner): If you want to travel to Mombasa or the Kenyan coast for a week, you need between 30-40 hours. This enables you to greet, shop, and understand basics.
Level 2 (Intermediate): If you want to speak with family, friends, or participate in everyday conversations with Kenyans, you need 40-60 hours (after Level 1).
Level 3 (Upper-Intermediate): If you plan to live in Kenya, work in a Kiswahili-using environment, or express your ideas and feelings, you need 40-80 hours (after Level 2).
Level 4 (Proficiency): If you need to study at a Kenyan university, work in a role requiring fluency, or relocate for work, you need 70-150 hours (after Level 3).
This timeframe is indicative only and is based on my teaching method and experience. It varies depending on your motivation, memory, ability to synthesize elements, class frequency, and time spent on homework.
✅ How to start?
I invite you to book two lessons first to evaluate my method and understand how I conduct a class. Then, you can proceed with more lessons if you like it.
✅ My Promise
You will learn in a relaxed, enjoyable manner—yet master the language in 10 days what might take others 60. My method focuses on essential communication, cultural context, and confidence-building, ensuring you not only learn faster but also learn better.
✅ Student Testimonial – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating
“Mr. John has proved to be an excellent teacher. First, he carefully checks what knowledge level the student already possesses. Only then does he take into account what the student wants, but not without constantly freshening up and, if necessary, correcting the student's previously acquired skills and knowledge.
The teaching happens in a friendly but fairly demanding way. Every lesson normally starts with a quick test of what was taught the lesson before. Very often, the teacher refers to the general cultural background and history of the language, which facilitates and enriches the learning process considerably.
I would definitely recommend Mr. John since he really knows how to motivate his students and make them feel more self-confident. This enables them to keep on seeing and enjoying the linguistic richness of Swahili.”
