Pleased to meet you. I'm Ruth Tunje, born and raised in Mombasa, Kenya; the hub of Swahili culture. I am a university graduate and I specialized in International Relations.
I believe that native language not only allows us to communicate and connect with one another, but it allows us to understand and appreciate the history of our ancestors and our upbringing. It cultivates an appreciation and understanding that is beyond beneficial for children, especially those from diverse familial backgrounds.
Teaching and speaking in our home language (Swahili) to our children/adults helps build their young minds and prepares them for success in school and beyond. Developing the child's / adult's home language provides the foundation for reading and writing, preparing them to be literate.
Extremely easy because Mombasa is the hub of Swahili culture.
Absolutely NOT.
