Hi, I'm Frani. I'm a native Spanish speaker from Chile currently living in Toronto. I have two degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature and linguistics, and Bachelor of Education in Spanish Language. I have been teaching Spanish as a second language for three years and teaching Spanish literacy skills for six years. I have extensive experience with beginners and advanced students who want to learn everyday Spanish and Spanish for academic use. I would say the easiest way to learn a second language is through applying the language's new knowledge and communication strategies in context, in a specific area of your interest and according to your use of Spanish level, which can be determined in a previous diagnostic. I’ve worked with groups and in personalized classes focused on special needs of learning and different communication skills.
I know learning a new language can be scary and tiring. Communication is key. My approach meets where you are at and continues to adjust. I focus on your goals and develop pedagogy and lesson plans to get you there as quickly as you need.
I think it’s very easy because there are many Spanish speakers’ communities and places where you can put in practice your speaking and reading skills. I’ve personally met many people from the Latin communities since I came to live in Canada, and they are very welcoming and open to meet new people and hang out with new friends.
I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to learn Spanish in Toronto because there are many resources to learn, like Spanish bookstores, free Latin or Spanish websites and platforms available where you can find audiovisual productions, books, sports, and academic materials of your interest. There are also many translation services and education programs for different learners’ needs and speakers of all languages.
