Hello all, I am Dominican born and raised in Dominican Republic.
Like you I've been in the journey of learning languages, I am fluent in English, learning Japanese now, so I understand your concerns about knowing grammar vs be able to communicate with locals.
What has helped me the most has been to listen and talk. That is what made me different than my peers that took English classes with me that took my skills to another level. If I just stayed with the grammar and what I learned from school, I would have not been able to communicate with native English speakers.
I want you to feel safe to speak, commit mistakes and improve, while helping you to also understand better the basic grammar.
Don't be afraid in this process, learning a language is easy, what makes it difficult is the fear to speak it.
