Hi,
My name is Marie and I am a native Spanish speaker. I grew up in Venezuela and then lived for several years in Spain and I am currently living in Dublin.
I have taught Spanish to immigrants and impoverished while living in Spain, I have also been certified by the Cervantes Institute to teach Spanish as a second language. I am fluent in English and French. I have 10 years of teaching experience of which 7 years I have spent teaching languages. I have a Master's degree in Philosophy. I studied Spanish linguistics in university, so I am very qualified to answer all your doubts.
I believe Spanish, like any language, can be easy to learn with the proper approach, I tend to modify my teaching technique to better suit my student's needs.
Spanish is a language that requires practice.
It is not as hard as people tend to assume, but like most things it requires dedication. There are some concepts of Spanish that can seem intimidating to the English speaker, such as the different articles and verbs, but these are easy to pick up and use in the day to day use of Spanish
This is a difficult question to answer. It all depends on the time you wish to dedicate to learning this new language and what you wish to achieve with Spanish. If you can only do a few hours a week and wish to know enough Spanish to be able to speak with natives it would take much less than a year, if you wish to have a level allowing you to speak Spanish comfortably in a work or study setting, you would be looking at 1 year at least.
