Hi, I'm Ángela — 12+ years teaching students from all over the world.
I have the patience your high school teacher didn't have for explaining "ser" vs. "estar" (and yes, I'll bring that same patience to the subjunctive). Classes move at your pace, and I'll always find a new angle if something doesn't click the first time. You’ll notice soon how passionate I’m about teaching.
I'm also a literary translator, currently "working" on my Master's thesis in Comparative Literature, so I can get you talking about just anything, from tricky slang (Already been in +5 countries in Latin America) to literary theory, and I'll settle, once and for all, why your favorite show has a better name in Latin America than in Spain. Don’t get stuck at "how do you say...?" Vocabulary will sneak in through actual conversation, not flashcards (but you’ll need the flashcards anyway, I’m not gonna lie to you.)
I've worked with:
- Language lovers who've already graduated from the Owl app and want to hold a conversation
- People dating a Spanish speaker who just want to get the joke at dinner
- Immigrants and expats who need Spanish for daily life
- Heritage speakers who understand grandma perfectly but can't get to answer
- Professionals and leaders tired of nodding like they understood 100%
My style
I'm learning a language myself right now (Portuguese, and yes, it's humbling), so I won't pretend this is a piece of cake. Each class has a clear structure but zero rigidity: conversation, role-play, video, and material picked for you. Not some generic handout you've already used with three other teachers... though, fine, we'll probably use that one too; what can I say?
I'm a Modern Languages professional with over twelve years teaching English and Spanish to students of every age and every learning style. Nowadays, though, I focus more on young people and adults. I'm currently pursuing a Master's in Foreign Literature and Comparative Literature at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). I hold a TKT teaching certification and an IELTS C1, which is less a diploma and more proof I've been on the uncomfortable side of learning a language myself.
Buenos Aires has this tricky intonation, and sometimes pals get very fast-paced when excited. But with the right teacher, you'll thrive soon!
I'd say the obvious: talking to people, exposing, daring... but truth to be told: you need some structure to make things faster and accurate. So, you need a teacher at least a couple one or two hours per week.
