Hello! I’m Mimi. To date, I have taught Japanese to students of all ages for a total of eight years in Singapore, Hiroshima, and Hong Kong. My students range in age from 6 to their 60s, and my lessons cover a wide range of topics, from the 50 hiragana characters to reading comprehension and grammar at the JLPT N1 level.
💡Specializing in Online Lessons now
People usually say I’m easy to talk to and have a positive personality. My hobbies include traveling, watching Korean dramas, and making beaded accessories. I like Hong Kong's islands, and I used to go to Lama Island a lot. Beer on islands is the best!🍻
Since I love experiencing new cultures and languages myself, I truly understand the “nerves” and “anxiety about making mistakes” that come with speaking a foreign language. That’s exactly why you absolutely don’t need to feel nervous in my lessons! 🛋️I promise an environment where you can learn happily with a smile, even if you make mistakes.
💡Features of My Online Lessons
Fully Customized: I’ll tailor lessons to your goals and pace, whether it’s travel conversation, everyday conversation, or JLPT preparation. Feel free to bring your own textbooks!
Easy-to-Follow Screen Sharing: Since I conduct lessons by sharing my screen and typing out the conversation, the lessons are visually easy to follow. I also use PowerPoint presentations with plenty of illustrations, tailored to each student’s level.
Sharing Review Notes: After each lesson, I’ll send you a summary of the day’s topics, vocabulary, and grammar points (via Google Drive or similar). This makes it easy to review anytime!
Support in English is Also Available: Beginners, don’t worry. I'll explain difficult grammar points using English as well (I'll do my best!).

Because they use kanji in their daily lives, they can read and memorize vocabulary at a much faster pace than Western learners. However, mastering “grammatical word order,” “pronunciation and accent unique to Japanese,” and “nuances such as honorifics”—which are completely different from Cantonese and English—is not easy to do on your own. Based on my four years of teaching experience at a Japanese language school in Hong Kong, I have a deep understanding of the areas where Hong Kong students tend to struggle. Let’s combine this supportive environment with the right approach so we can improve your skills together in a fun and efficient way!
There are many Japanese language schools in Hong Kong, so I think the environment for learning Japanese is well-established. However, since many people in Hong Kong lead busy lives, it’s not easy to go to school at a set time once a week to attend classes. Also, the largest class I ever taught had 18 students. When there are so many students, you end up with fewer chances to speak. In contrast, with online lessons, you don’t have to go to school, and you can skip a class during a busy week. Also, since we’re private lessons, you don’t have to wait for other students to finish speaking.
Don't be shy! Just send me a message and let's start with a casual chat. See you online! 😊
