As well as I have experiences as an assistant Japanese teacher, I keep my Japanese alive by connecting with Japanese in different age groups in Japan through live-streamings. :)
I also taught Japanese in an organization which I enjoyed a lot.
One of the things I surprised... so many male students spoke "feminine" Japanese without knowing it..as they have more chance to learn it from ladies than gentlemen.
This is just an example, I am excited to teach you "real" and "raw" Japanese with a laugh.... I love comedy, too. :)
If you prefer learning polite Japanese, you can! as well with me. When I was in Japan, I worked at an office as well as 5-star hotels and VIP only Japanese private restaurants affiliated with a bank where I had to speak very polite Japanese.
That means I can also teach polite Japanese "keigo" from my experiences on top of text books.
I also teach JLPT and customise your lessons to meet your goal, purposes etc if you have one.

Is it difficult to learn Japanese in Auckland?
If you are keen, I don't think it is difficult. There is a meetup group as well as Japanese classes.

How much time does it take to learn Japanese in Auckland?
It is completely up to you! If you are keen and practice a lot, you remember very quickly but if you don't practice.. of course, it is going to take a longtime to learn.
If it includes "written" Japanese, my answer will be different, though.. Even for us, Japanese, it never has an end... which I love about Japanese.
If you would like to learn Kanji, I know a wonderful book for non-Japanese speakers. ;)
