Hello! I am Mary Janice, a BS Accountancy graduate passionate about teaching the Filipino language and culture. Despite my background in numbers and financial analysis, my deep love for my country's language and heritage has always been a strong driving force. I firmly believe that proficiency in Filipino is crucial for effective communication and a deeper appreciation of our diverse cultural identity.
After graduating, I volunteered as a teacher at a local learning center, teaching underprivileged children basic literacy and numeracy skills. This experience fueled my passion for education and motivated me to pursue tutoring as a career.
I believe in making learning fun and relevant by using real-world examples and interactive activities in my lessons. I tailor my teaching to meet each student's unique needs and learning preferences, creating a supportive atmosphere where they are inspired to learn and develop.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Saint Paul's Business School, Palo. I also excelled in Filipino during my early education. I am fluent in English and speak Filipino as my native language and Waray-Waray.
Learning the Filipino language can be challenging for some, especially if it's your first time. However, its grammar is relatively straightforward compared to many other languages, and it shares similarities with other Southeast Asian languages like Malay and Indonesian.
To make learning Filipino easier, I help students find appropriate language-learning resources and focus on practicing the vocabulary which helps them build a foundation for communication.
- Expose yourself to environments where the Filipino language is spoken. This could be through watching Filipino movies or TV shows or listening to Filipino music.
- Consistent practice of the language will also help.
- Start with learning common, everyday words and phrases that are always used in conversations.
- Use learning resources from the internet or libraries.
- Be patient and persistent.
Learning Filipino in Manila is great because there are lots of ways to practice speaking the language. In Manila, you can join classes, talk with others who speak Filipino, and go to events to learn more about the culture. It's a fun and easy way to get better at speaking Filipino.
