My preferred name is Cake. My pronouns are they/them. I'm currently a native-speaking English teacher at a primary school in Sheung Shui, but I live in Mong Kok. I have obtained a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from University College London (UCL) and CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) from Cambridge Assessment. I have 5+ of teaching experience. Prior to being placed in the primary school, I taught English and Thai to high school students and adults. For English, I mainly taught grammar and speaking, especially IELTS Speaking and TOEIC Reading and Listening. Before getting into teaching, I worked in both public and private sectors in Thailand and the UK. I was a scholarship student to study in the US, New Zealand, Canada and the UK for a year each during high school, undergraduate and postgraduate.
To start learning any languages is to start with what you enjoy, most of my students learning Thai like to watch BL (Boy Love) series. So, I incorporate that into my lesson.
Some can pick up survival Thai and be fairly fluent in the language within one lesson. Many who would like to learn more about the culture and language dynamics could take weeks or months to learn because they need exposure and practice to have a deeper understanding of the language. Also, everyone has different goals and learning preferences. I believe it is best to always communicate your learning needs with your tutor so that they can tailor lessons accordingly.
