Originally from Canada, I have been teaching English in Hong Kong for 10 years. I am incredibly flexible with my teaching style as I have experience with students between the ages of 2-18. Whether it is teaching how to speak with clear pronunciation, read with clear understanding, or write a clear essay, I hold my students to a high standard and will push them to reach for the stars.
My students often describe me as a "strict and fun teacher". As a private teacher, I focus on shaping the student's behavior in order to build up their concentration, creativity, mindfulness, and independence so that they can get the most out of their learning. I balance my teaching approach with both disciplines and play by using behavioral psychology techniques, and I am always more than happy to share my knowledge and experience if parents are looking for consultation.
Aside from being a Native English speaker, I am also fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Chinese. Coming from a Chinese family myself, I have an awareness of how cultural background plays into a student's learning when they are picking up English as a second language. In this way, I am able to build a deeper connection with students in Hong Kong.
Fun Fact: I also practice Chinese calligraphy and kung fu outside of work!
Incredibly easy! Nowadays, kids have access to so much information and entertainment on the internet that it is possible for them to explore their own interests in the form of English music, movies, shows, YouTube channels etc. Hong Kong is also a bilingual environment, so there are many opportunities for students to use the English they have learned.
Students in Hong Kong already learn English as a subject, so it doesn't take long. Getting to native level of English will take some time depending on how much exposure the student gets.
