I'm a Dutch-speaking Master Translator English-French who has always maintained his language levels through lots of reading and contacts with foreign friends and acquaintances. I genuinely love languages. Last year I taught French at a prestigious college in Ghent and I also did French tutoring, with excellent results. I've also given English language camps for French-speaking people, through Ruysschaert Academy, the elite of the language camps. I'm good at detecting the issues to work on and devising ideas and approaches to tackle them in an efficient and engaging way. I want my students to understand the importance and advantages of speaking other languages and I'm always looking for ways to stimulate their efforts. My main focus in teaching has always been the practical application of the things I teach. I want my students to be able to use the new language in everyday situation. I want them to enjoy their newfound knowledge, which in turn will stimulate further study.
You would be surprised, but the main language in Brussels is English! This is the result of the presence of the European Commission and many international organizations. French is the second language with Dutch only coming in third place. You won't be able to learn Dutch picking it up from the streets so a dedicated help is essential.
A tricky question since a lot depends on prior knowledge (possibly other Germanic languages) and aptitude for languages. Schedules for learning a language will always depend on the student's time, energy and motivation. Therefore a flexible approach is required.
