Hello, a big 你好 Nǐ hǎo to you who is reading my profile. My name is Poona and I am a professional mandarin teacher who had been travelling around the world and finally settled down here in Tallinn. Frequently Asked Questions
How easy is it to learn Chinese / Mandarin in Tallinn?
I believe it would not be too hard for any Estonian speakers to learn Mandarin since there are no genders of nouns, no conjugation of verbs, no tenses in Mandarin although we do have a large vocabularies and because Mandarin is not a Phonetic language so you will need some effort to memorise hanzi (Chinese Characters). But overall I don't think it is a difficult language to learn according to my teaching experience and my students' feedback.
How much time does it take to learn Chinese / Mandarin in Tallinn?
It usually takes 60-80 hours to get from zero to conversational level which to say enough to survive in China and be able to do shopping, ask for directions, order food in a restaurant, talk about weather and plans, etc. Although it really depends on other things as well, such as students’ interest, how fast one picks up a language and so on.
