Hello everyone 你好,
I am born and raised in China (1 to 3 yrs old), grew up in New Zealand (3 yrs old to 8 years old), then studied in China for seven years (year 2 to year 8) before residing in Sydney Australia and studying from year 9 till now.
I hold a bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a trained scientific, philosophical, and artistic mind. Right now I am working on setting up my own Traditional Chinese Medicine business. Meanwhile, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at UNSW, with the goal of becoming a clinical psychologist.
Before studying in China, my mother tongue was kind of English since I could only speak English. Before studying in Australia, my mother tongue became Chinese and continued to be so.
What this shows is that I have experienced the struggle of learning Chinese from a native English/foreign speaker, and demonstrates the possibility to achieve native competency through learning.
I am personally passionate about Traditional Chinese Culture, arts, heritage, and language. You can find me practicing Chinese internal martial arts whilst zealously studying the ancient Chinese Medicine textbooks as well as internal alchemy, astrology, iChing books. Overall the years, I have developed skills in translating traditional text into modern text.
As someone who has received education in both China and Australia, I understand the nuances, strengths, and weaknesses of both sides, thereby bringing you the most effective way to learn Chinese, to suit your individual background, preferences, and needs.
To learn the Chinese language, one must also appreciate and immerse in the depth and width of Chinese culture including the historical development, development of Chinese calligraphy, development of Chinese linguistics, philosophical ideas, and texts including iChing, Dao De Jing, Lun Yu, ideologies such as Daoist, Confucianism, and Buddhism, values and beliefs of Chinese people in daily life.
This cultural and historical knowledge and skills will be gradually introduced along the lessons so that you can learn Mandarin Chinese in a comprehensive and engaging manner.
Plus, as someone who has been learning Spanish since 2022, it gives insight into the struggles as well as the growth that a student may encounter.
I am a big believer in learning intuitively with curiosity, if that resonates with you, then please hit me with an email.
If you are someone who wants to learn Mandarin Chinese in the most efficient way, then you are at the right place.
Learning is complex, and learning Mandarin Chinese is no exception.
Focus on the process along with a systematic approach and counting the marginal gains, you will eventually reach your goal.
Many people that I know of find learnning Chinese difficult, even among Chinese natives too.
Everyone learns differently and I am excited to design an individualised learning framework suitable for you personally.
Learning a new language requires dedication, commitment, as well as solid learning skills together with a systematic approach. This perception of difficulty is subjective and varies from person to person.
If you are committed, stick to the goal, and gain 1% from each practice, you will find the road to mastering Mandarin Chinese becomes a lot more smoother and enjoyable.
Many people believe that the best way to learn a new langauge is by cultural immersion such as living in a country where majority of poeple speaks that language. Whilst it is true, it undermines the current world we live where we get access to tons of information. Plus, if you live in Sydney in particular then you will find many opportunities to practice Mandarin. An important part of learning a langauge is being able to use it straight away and apply it in your daily situations.
When I am learning Spanish, I take EVERY opportunity to interact with people that I think might know Spanish, this includes on the train, at school, at bus stations, at workplace. Never feel embarrased by the mistakes you make and be humble along the way.
In the end, learning a new langauge is about having the ability to establish deep human connection with another person from another culture.
