I’m a Chinese international student studying in the United States. I’m currently doing my exchange program and internship here at Yonsei University. Back in the states, I’m studying economics and East Asian Studies; I’ve been active in the Chinese language learner community in my college as a Chinese tutor and event organizer. I understand some common struggles when it comes to study a new language, especially a hard one like Chinese (my tutees back in college always complain about it). But since I’m also learning korean here in seoul, I think there are a lot of commonalities and shortcuts in term of pronunciation and origins when it comes to study Chinese for korean people.
I think learning Chinese is hard in general, especially when you are in a foreign country.
If you want to become fluent in Chinese, at least 5 years+. Basic simple communication skills can be achieved in 3 months.
