Born and raised in Hong Kong, I am fluent in Cantonese and English, with the former being my mother tongue. I can also speak Mandarin so I am open to teaching Cantonese to Mandarin speakers. I have two years of volunteer tutoring experience in Hong Kong, so I know how to teach in both English and Cantonese. Being a university student in Sydney, I observed that the Cantonese community in Sydney is huge. This could be a great opportunity for local students to learn Cantonese so they could communicate with international students better. People of all ages, genders, and nationalities are welcome!
Engage in everyday dialogue with Cantonese speakers, try ordering food in Cantonese in Chinese restaurants, visit suburbs more populated by Cantonese speakers, such as Chinatown, Chatswood, Eastwood, etc.
To be a fluent speaker, it may take more than a year to learn Cantonese. Mastering pronunciation and getting rid of any foreign accents can take more time. However, if your goal is to be able to communicate with other Cantonese speakers, a year of learning should be enough.
