I'm a graduate environmental student here in Montreal. However, I was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, and I've been residing in Canada for over six years now. While I haven't formally taught languages before, during my time in Vietnam, I had the opportunity to assist many expat friends with their Vietnamese language practice.
Although I didn't provide them with structured lessons, my approach focused on informal, everyday speaking and writing, aiming to make them sound natural and more like a native speaker. Consequently, my friends found my assistance more beneficial than that of their formal teachers.
As a person, I consider myself patient and easy-going, which makes learning Vietnamese with me an enjoyable experience. While my French is limited, I am fluent in English and more than willing to teach you whatever subjects or fields you wish to explore. How easy is it to learn Vietnamese in Montreal?
I would say Montreal is not a city with a huge Vietnamese community to practice speaking, but there are some groups of Vietnamese people you can connect with to socialize, make friends, immerse in new cultures, and, of course, practice speaking the language.
Is it difficult to learn Vietnamese in Montreal?
I personally don't think Vietnamese is a difficult language to learn. I don't say so because I'm Vietnamese, but this is a language that you can easily speak fluently if you have enough vocabulary. The grammar is super easy, we don't have many rules that you have to remember or words to conjugate. The only challenging part to me is the pronunciation; but with time and practice, I think one can easily nail this amazing language! :)
