Merhaba! I'm Duygu, a graduate student in Turkish Language and Literature at Boğaziçi University, and I've been teaching Turkish for over five years.
In my lessons, I focus on speaking rather than memorizing rules. Because truly learning a language means thinking in it, joking in it, arguing in it, and making mistakes in it. I always leave room in class for a bit of laughter, a bit of questioning, and a bit of wonder.
I listen closely to my students and adapt my teaching style to each person. Some need structure, some just want to talk; I work with both. I use just enough grammar to help you sense the logic of Turkish, and just enough real-life material to get you actually speaking.
Knowing Turkish literature, the history of the language, and its cultural nuances closely is an advantage that brings color to my lessons. I can read Ottoman Turkish and communicate fluently in English, so I'm happy to explain things in English whenever it helps. If you'd rather express yourself in Turkish than wrestle with grammar rules, let's get started together. Our first lesson is a great opportunity to get to know each other and talk about your goals.
Istanbul is the capital of Turkish — it's home to the accent considered 'standard' Turkish. Plus, every moment in Istanbul is so interactive that you can pick up at least 5 new words from 3 different people just on your way to class :)
Absolutely not! If it were difficult to learn Turkish in Istanbul, it would probably be impossible anywhere else in the country:)
