I have been an English tutor for 10 years. I have taught both private and class lessons. Before the crisis, I did some additional work for hostel and bar services in an area of tourism in Bangkok. I had opportunities to communicate a lot with foreigners that came from English-speaking countries. Many of them wanted to learn Thai, so I was willing to teach them how to call the names of food or even some basic structures of the Thai language.
I always told them Thai is not that hard. The hardest part I consider is the sound conjugation. If compared to English or other European languages, Thai has no something much complicatedly grammatical like tenses, numbers and genders. You simply try to memorise words as much as you can.
The Thai language, like all languages in the world, has always been dynamic. I mean it changes all the time, so it takes life long to learn a language completely. In fact, you will have to keep learning it forever. But okay, to make it sound more commercial, within 3 months I am quite sure people will be able to only speak some sentences in Thai almost 100% correctly regarding accent and word use. And in 6 month they will probably write some short sentences. In 1 year one foreigner can communicate with Thai natives in a proper way.
