**ONLINE LESSONS as I live in Vedado, Havana**
Hi! My name is Susana, and I am a Havana-based Literature and Language professor with a degree in Philology and 20 years of work experience in Higher Education. I am a Cuban-born fiction writer, translator, and scholar. I teach Latin American, Caribbean, and Cuban Literature, Culture, and Language courses at Havana University (Faculty of Arts & Letters). I taught for a decade at Casa de las Américas (Consortium for Studies Abroad in the CASA Program for Ivy League students taking a semester in Havana), interacting with foreign students (American, Irish, Australians). I live with 6 kitties in my privately owned house, whom I both adore and wish to strangle sometimes when they poop and pee all over my place. I love listening to Audiobooks, watching any kind of interesting and innovative visual content, and I am always surrounded by books, music, and chocolate. Although my mother tongue is Spanish, I am also bilingual in English, with some fluency in French. As a translator, I do both literary translations (English to Spanish/Spanish to English) in academic and literary fields (poetry, prose, essayism), and simultaneous on-site translation. I have taught Spanish to foreign students of all ages, and English to Cuban students ages 16 onward, seeking to enroll in UK, US, Canadian postgraduate studies, or simply work in a foreign country. I have prepared students for Cambridge, TOEFL, and IELTS exams. But I always design unique classes for each of my students' individual needs, expectations, and goals, based on their particular strengths and purposes, and the importance of making them feel more confident and empowered. So, I help them become more fluent and proficient in pronunciation and conversation, get a better understanding of the grammar and specific vocabulary, and write more powerful texts to fully express their dreams, creativity, and more complex thoughts.
I love learning and teaching languages, for I think it's the key to communicating, understanding, and connecting better with all sorts of interesting people around the world. Since I live on an island, it also helps me feel less isolated and more like a global citizen. I think language is a tremendous way to make friends, broaden one's scope, and enrich one's dreams!
As a writer, I have published several fiction short-story books for adults and children in Cuba, Spain, and French Guyana. I have traveled as an academic and as a writer to places such as Norway, Perú, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, and French Guyana. I have great friends from around the world whom I have met in my journeys, and through my Language courses as well.
Relativiely easy if you need just basic conversation. Also not very cheap. Granted, there are many Spanish native speakers living there, but just a few of them with the right credentials and professional training to teach Spanish Language at all levels to American citizens (especiall B1-B2 and C1-C2 proficiency levels), or more complex English Language to the massive Hispanic community settled in Florida
You are surrounded by Spanish speakers. Lots of signs and bussinesses are in Spanish or require at the very least some knowledge of it due to the large-scale Hispanic population based in Miami, and througout Florida
