Explore Russian with me: Language, literature and cinema.

Hello! I’m a bilingual Finnish–Russian tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Helsinki. Alongside my degree, I completed courses in teaching and translating, gaining practical experience in translating between Finnish and Russian. I don’t just speak Russian fluently — I’ve studied its structure and grammar in depth.

After my bachelor’s studies, I pursued a Master’s degree in Area and Cultural Studies, specializing in Russian and Eastern European studies. This has deepened my understanding not only of the language but also of the region’s rich culture, complex history, and politics. I also worked at the Finnish Literature Society archive, where I listened to and translated an extensive number of Russian-language interviews into Finnish — further honing my skills in both translation and cultural interpretation.

In my lessons, you’ll learn everything from the basics of the Russian alphabet and everyday conversation to exploring the language through the lens of culture — including Soviet and Russian films, music, and literature. I believe that learning a language is also about connecting with its culture.

Having grown up speaking both Finnish and Russian, I’ve naturally been translating and teaching my languages to others throughout my life. I love learning languages myself, and I believe the best way to learn a language is by speaking as much as possible — even if you make mistakes! — and by actively listening to the language through films, music, and other cultural materials. I currently live in Belgium, and I truly believe that my love for French music has helped me improve my pronunciation and become more attuned to the rhythm and sound of the language.

In my lessons, you will learn the essentials of the Russian language, from the alphabet and everyday conversation to exploring Russian through its rich cultural heritage — including films, music, and art from both the Soviet era and modern Russia. I believe that learning a language is most effective when it’s connected to its culture.
