Conversation in Korean: Learn through the experience

Hi! I'm Mun, a native Korean speaker from Seoul. I recently graduated with a double major in Economics and Psychology, and I'm currently spending a gap year in Stockholm on a working holiday visa.

I speak fluent Korean and English, as well as intermediate Dutch, and I have over three years of experience teaching English to middle and high school students in Korea. As a language learner myself, I know how frustrating it can be to understand something but still struggle to say it.

For me, language learning has two sides: understanding how a language works and actually using it. Grammar and vocabulary give you a foundation, but conversation is where you learn to put them into practice. That's what I'd like to help you with: using Korean in ways that matter to you.

Here's how a typical lesson works. You bring a topic you'd like to talk about that day, whether it's your weekend, a film you watched, or something that happened at work, and we spend the hour having a real conversation about it. I use an AI transcription tool to capture what we say, so afterwards we can go back over the transcript together: I point out what you said well, correct mistakes in grammar and vocabulary, and suggest more natural ways to say what you meant. That way you leave each lesson with a written record of the conversation and the feedback, rather than just a memory of it. If you're a complete beginner, I'll guide the topics at first, and we'll gradually move towards conversations you choose yourself.

Korean can feel challenging if your first language is English, Swedish, or another European language, since much of its grammar and vocabulary will be unfamiliar. The good news is that Hangul, the Korean alphabet, is systematic and approachable, so the writing system is a much smaller hurdle than most people expect. For beginners, we can cover the basic letters and how they fit together in our first few lessons, while picking up useful words and expressions along the way.

How long it takes depends on your goals and how much time you spend with the language between lessons. Becoming comfortable in a wide range of conversations is a long-term project, but we can work towards small, practical goals from the very beginning: introducing yourself, ordering food, and talking about things you enjoy. I'll explain things in English whenever it helps.

My aim is to give you space to try, make mistakes, ask questions, and find more natural ways of expressing yourself. If you're looking for practical, conversation-focused Korean lessons in a relaxed setting, I'd be happy to help!
