Hello! I'm Yui. I am a native Japanese speaker currently living in Antwerp. In university, I focused on foreign language studies, which gave me firsthand experience with the process of learning a new language from scratch. I understand that learning Japanese can feel overwhelming at times, and I am here to support you through those challenges with patience and practical advice based on my own learning journey.
Before moving to Belgium, I worked at a large company in Japan where I was involved in the international trade business. Because of this, I can help you with not only casual daily conversation but also the natural business phrases and professional manners used in a corporate environment. Whether you are a beginner or looking to practice specific business scenarios, I will do my best to tailor our lessons to your own pace.
For our lessons, I mainly use the following high-quality materials:
"Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan" (Focuses on practical communication)
"Easy Japanese" by NHK WORLD-JAPAN (Great for daily phrases and culture)
However, I am happy to adapt my teaching style to your specific needs. If you have any preferred textbooks or specific topics you’d like to focus on, please feel free to discuss them with me. I will do my best to accommodate your requests!
I believe the most important part of learning is feeling comfortable and having fun. I am an avid traveler and love exploring different cultures; I often enjoy solo trips across Europe. I am also an active runner and recently participated in a local running event here in Antwerp! I look forward to talking with you about travel, culture, or anything that interests you while we practice Japanese together.
While the Japanese-speaking community in Antwerp is relatively small, there are wonderful opportunities to immerse yourself in the language. The University of Antwerp offers Japanese courses, which shows a growing interest in the language here. Additionally, there are several authentic Japanese restaurants owned and operated by Japanese people in the city. These spots provide a friendly environment where you can practice what you’ve learned! Having a local native tutor like myself will help you build the confidence to step into these places and start a conversation.
It depends on your goals, but many students feel comfortable with basic expressions after a few months of regular practice. My goal is to make our lessons as practical as possible, especially for those interested in Japanese lifestyle or business.
