Bonjour! Hi! My name is Alice. I am currently a university student in Dunedin, New Zealand. I grew up speaking French most of my life at the Lycée Français in Hanoi, Vietnam, where I obtained my brevet with mention très bien. I moved to Thailand for my last two years of high school, where I obtained my bilingual diploma in French. I have a lot of previous experience tutoring French to students and kids aged 6-11. My main goal is to ensure a positive and fun environment! I believe children need to feel confident in themselves to learn effectively.
Learning French in Wellington is definitely achievable and a lot of fun. While French isn't the local spoken language, Wellington has fantastic resources like tutors, university clubs, and cultural spots where you can connect with other speakers. Picking up French grammar, conjugations, and getting your head around the pronunciation definitely takes practice. But with the right support, it doesn't have to feel overwhelming at all. Having a tutor helps break down the tricky parts into straightforward lessons, giving you a safe, relaxed space to practice speaking and build real confidence from day one.
The easiest way to pick up French is definitely learning straight from someone who actually speaks it fluently. Being taught by a French speaker gives you a huge head start with getting the accent right, learning how people actually talk, and picking up on the culture behind the language. Beyond one on one lessons, the best thing to do in Wellington is mix in small everyday habits. Watching French cartoons, listening to music, or visiting local French cultural events makes it feel natural and way more exciting for younger learners.
