Bonjour! My name is Taylor, and I am a student at the American University of Paris studying French and Psychology. I have a B2 French proficiency, and work as an instructor for French children in Paris during the school year. This summer, I will be returning to the United States and would love to continue to share my knowledge of French by being a tutor.
Like any new language, French can be difficult to learn and typically takes multiple years of practice to become fluent. For many anglophones, French is especially challenging in that it has irregular verb conjugations, different syntax from English, and vowel pronunciations that rely on different muscles in the mouth that are not present when speaking English.
Sometimes this can feel overwhelming, which is completely normal. However, with the right tools and support, as well as the passion to learn, you can absolutely become fluent! As a tutor, this is where I come in handy! By using my expertise in French, I will teach French that is tailored to your needs and interests. Most importantly, though, I also strive to create a safe learning environment so that you can learn curiously and joyfully, without fear of mistakes. I look forward to learning together!
English is most effectively learned by being immersed in the culture. In this immersion, it gives the student the opportunity to interact with a variety of different dialects of English (i.e. Australian, British, Southern United States) which helps develop oral English skills, as well as a comprehension of anglophone cultures. Moreover, it is also easier to learn English when exposed to English media that interests the student. It's common to feel unmotivated to learn English when it's learned in a way that feels irrelevant. However, when engaging in English media that is enjoyed, there is a level of interest that is added to the learning experience, typically leading to the student to feel more motivated learning the language.
No. With any new language it is difficult to learn. What makes English especially hard is it's lack of patterns regarding the pronunciation of some irregular words (i.e. "comb", "tomb", and "womb"). Moreover, there are some verb conjugations that are irregular and must be memorized (i.e. past tense of "to go" is "went"). With this said however, with the right tools and patience, it is possible to learn English.
