Learning English in Taipei

Hi, my name is Miriam. A native English speaker from Canada. I have been living here in Taiwan for 20 years now and a friend introduced me to private tutoring about 15 or 16 years ago. My students have ranged from toddlers to adults ( including business English) and over the years I have realized that no two students are alike, everyone learns at a pace and in a different way. So part of my job as your tutor ( or your child’s tutor) is figuring out what way/s work best for you/them. No two classes are alike, I try my best to customize each class to help to reach yours in a timely manner without pressure. I am very, easy going and understanding. I have also traveled to China as a personal English coach for a Chinese actress while she was filming a movie there. Below you can find a basic outline of how I would generally conduct my classes based on age range and levels
Toddlers: playing with toys, reading to them, using flash cards to increase their vocabulary
Children 5-7: playing games (more advanced) reading and discussing stories, try to have them read to me, phonics, writing, arts and crafts
Children 7 and up: help with homework (revision, going over vocabulary, spelling) a weekly writing journal, general conversation
Teenagers: Help with homework, weekly journal on a more advanced level. Topic based conversation incorporating new vocabulary and how to use the words properly etc
Adults: Basic conversation that based on different topics each class, reading news articles, going over unknown vocabulary, discussion of the article
