I am currently teaching both English and Math to deaf and hard-of-hearing students at a public Middle school in San Francisco. I hold a BA in Math and an MS in deaf Education. I developed a passion for linguistics while studying ASL and I also write daily for a personal blog in which I create stories incorporating four words of the day with a randomly chosen, stock-free image. As a special educator, I am experienced in teaching English to students who not only have a variety of needs but who come to me with a variety of language foundations and fluencies.
The easiest way to learn English is through regular exposure to native speakers and writers. As a teacher of the deaf, I have a responsibility to work on improving my ASL skills so that I can better connect with and teach my students. The best avenue to that goal is immersion in conversations with native signers and the same approach is applicable to all language learners.
