Hello, my name is Ed, and I live in Japan. I am a Native English speaker, TESL/ESL, and CTB certified since 2014 with 10+ years of experience.

I am originally from Denver, Colorado, a city known for its mountains, skiing, and love of the outdoors.

At 23, I joined the United States Marine Corps and left Denver to see the world, and was eventually stationed at Camp Foster in Okinawa, Japan. Living and traveling in various countries gave me a deep appreciation for other cultures and for the importance of clear communication. After the military, I worked in IT for a small company in Okinawa and then at a large American investment bank in Tokyo for almost ten years. During this time, I continued to build a family, living and working in Japan.

In 2012, I decided to move away from IT and focus on something more personally meaningful: teaching. I became TESL/ESL and CTB certified in 2014 and began teaching private English students in Okinawa.

I have taught a wide range of learners—children, teenagers, adults, individuals, and groups—at large English schools, small local schools, and cafés. Many of my private students have studied with me for years, which allows me to support their growth over the long term.

My teaching style is friendly, patient, and practical. I focus on helping students build real-world communication skills and confidence, not just memorize grammar rules.
