Hi everyone! I'm Julia, a French/English teacher and PhD researcher currently based in Munich. I've been teaching French to students of all ages, from kids discovering the language to adults aiming for fluency, from Canada and France to Taiwan and Germany!
Here's what I love about teaching: it's not about memorizing grammar rules or feeling stressed in a classroom (not only I promise!). It's about actually using the language to talk about things that matter to you. That's my approach: conversational, personalized, and centered on what you want to learn. That said, if you prefer a more structured, grammar-heavy approach, I'm happy to adapt!
Who I teach:
-> Kids discovering French (ages 2-15) : making it fun and natural
-> Teenagers & adults (A1–C1) : from absolute beginners to advanced speakers
-> Exam prep (DELF, DALF, school/university exams)
-> Professional & academic French
-> I’m doing it in English too ( I have both degrees ! )
My teaching style:
I'm not big on rigid grammar drills. Instead, we focus on real conversation, introduce grammar naturally as it comes up, and build vocabulary around your interests and needs. I use textbooks like Taxi, Edito, 100% FLE, and others, but only as tools to support your goals, not the other way around!
What drives me:
My PhD research focuses on visual history, migration, and war history — so I'm genuinely interested in history, photography, visual culture, and cross-cultural stories. If you want to explore these topics while learning French, even better! I did my bachelors in History and Language teaching and my PhDs are in History and Visueal studies :)
Honestly? Less than people think. French has a bit of a scary reputation, but in my experience, most learners are surprised by how fast they pick things up when the approach is right / we have fun learning. With regular practice, you can hold basic conversations within weeks and reach a comfortable conversational level in 6 to 12 months.
From my experience, students who combine structured grammar work with regular speaking practice tend to reach conversational level within 6 to 12 months. Total beginners can often hold basic conversations after just a few weeks of focused effort.
