I am a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Melbourne. I studied Creative Writing and English: Modern and Contemporary Literature as my electives during my first and second years.
I have experience teaching young children who struggle with various difficulties and use a multisensory learning approach as well as a reward system to ensure the children stay motivated.
I can assist adults and older children in increasing their vocabulary, correcting grammatical errors, and providing detailed feedback on reading and writing.
I can also speak Mandarin and Malay so Chinese and Malay students looking to improve their English are more than welcome to hire me as their tutor.
Please note that transphobia, queerphobia, racism, sexism, misogyny, and all other forms of discrimination (hate speech and comments) are NOT welcome in my lessons. Any form of hateful remarks and discrimination will result in permanent termination of lessons. You are entitled to your opinion but you are also entitled to the consequence of your opinion.
As English is the main language here in Melbourne, it is quite easy to learn if one takes the time to do so. That means one must be willing to participate in their learning by using the language as often as possible. In other words, should not just read books that are in English but also learn to speak the language as well. It will also be better if the person learns to write in English to better understand how the words connect to each other in sentences as well as ensure the sentences are not repetitive and still comprehensive to the reader. Therefore, engaging with someone in a conversation solely in English will greatly improve their fluency in the language. Furthermore, writing while reading can enhance one’s ability to speak the language as well. Watching English movies and videos have also been shown to be helpful in improving one’s proficiency in English as well.
It depends on various factors including the person’s background and commitment to learning the language. One with very little to no English background may still be able to learn to speak the language within a year if they are committed to practice using the language on a daily basis.
