Hi there, it’s Fatima. I’m a 22-year-old Sudanese student living in Istanbul. I have been teaching English to A1-B2 students for two years now and I mostly focus on speaking, as I find it to be the most important skill for people who want to learn English nowadays. I have learned a completely new language (Turkish) within a year, so I know quite well the struggles of learning a new language. Compared to other cities in Türkiye, Istanbul has a big international community here. And which language do these members of the international community speak? English! So if you’re living in Istanbul, with the help of the expats that live here, you can practice your English regularly. The best way to learn a language is through exposure, and people living in Istanbul have a very good advantage when it comes to exposure.
How much time does it take to learn English in Istanbul?
I would say in a year, if you start from absolutely nothing, you can at least get to level B2. That is with hard work and consistency of course.
