Hello, as a young person who recently leant another language I understand the difficulties and struggles in doing so but I also found the easiest way of learning a new language is to emerge yourself in said language weather that be by switching your TV language or simply having mundane conversations in English to practice and get used to the casual way of talking and polish everyday vocab instead of focusing on intricate words native English dont regularly use. in school I always achieved the highest grades in English and have a wide knowledge of vocab and especially in colloquial and slang. I worked as an au pair in where I would teach a family English, I found the family vastly improved just from talking to me in English over dinner or whilst relaxing in the living room going over the days events, this is the best way to learn English as the language is very much a language of feeling and not so much a language based on a set of strict grammatical rules, and after 9 months the whole family could comfortably talk to me fluently in English including their 14 year old child, and likewise for me in their native tongue through the same method.
cologne is a very international city with a lot of people who speak English weather that be as a 2nd language or as a mother tongue making it easier to connect and find others who are also looking to learn English and in turn practice and learn together.
depending on how much effort you put in you can get a good foundation of English within a few months and can progress to conversation around 3-4 months
