A culture without a language is dead, but this goes both ways. I like to teach English, of course through learning and grammar, but also what those can be used to create. I find examples of poetry, great prose, songs, movies, and historical quotations that will build up your knowledge of the English language and at the same time your culture of the English-speaking world. Which will give you the confidence required to speak in another language. If everyone can get a TEFL then how valuable are they really?
But how many tutors have a knowledge of, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Austen, Wordsworth, and Steinbeck? How many can teach you comedy and politics at the same time through the works of Iannuchi, and Anthony Jay?
Learning languages can be fun, the one thing I'd like to do is to make the funniest it can be.
