Hey! I'm a native English speaker with an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a strong background in public speaking. I'm here in Barcelona pursuing a masters in Political Economy at UB and I'm also learning Spanish (currently B2 level) so I can relate to the difficulty of learning a new language! But don't worry, with a little bit of effort and a lot of laughs along the way - we'll have you speaking English in no time!
In my opinion, the most important components of learning a new language are being consistent with your studies and having fun along the way. If that sounds like what you're looking for, let's get started!
I really recommend watching TV shows and movies in English with subtitles in your native language. Once you feel comfortable enough you can change the subtitles to English and eventually you can get rid of them altogether! In terms of speaking with people in person, I recommend finding places in the city that attract an international audience. For instance, you can find native English speakers in every Irish pub in the city!
Every language has some parts that are easy and others that are more difficult. It's true that English can be a tough language to learn, but it's also true that there are huge benefits to learning it. These benefits are perhaps more significant than any other language in the modern world because English has become the international business language and will open up a tremendous number of opportunities (whether that be travelling abroad, attracting international clients to a business here in Barcelona, or just meeting a large number of new people).
