I am a fourth-year undergraduate student at Victoria University of Wellington. I hold a Level 2-A certificate in the Mandarin Proficiency Test and achieved an overall IELTS score of 7. My Chinese name is 王彦顺, you can call me Alphie. I'm 21 years old and eager to work with both kids and adult students. I would like to be a tutor as a part-time job because it is a good way to communicate with foreign friends. As I'm majoring in intercultural communication, it is very important.
My lessons are friendly, patient, and tailored to each student’s needs. As a native Mandarin speaker from Shanghai, I can help young learners build a strong foundation in Chinese, especially in pronunciation, pinyin, vocabulary, speaking, and reading.
I have designed my own pinyin exercises and prepared PowerPoint materials using a selection of adolescents’ Chinese reading texts or simple readings for adults, so lessons can be both structured and engaging. I also enjoy adapting activities to suit each child’s age, level, and interests rather than following the same teaching method for everyone.
Making friends with Chinese people or searching for Chinese courses.
In Wellington, not really. But for native English speakers, Chinese is a completely different and new language which is not easy to handle.
