Born and raised in Taiwan, I am native in Mandarin and Taiwanese, and I read and write both traditional and simplified Chinese.
As a language enthusiast, I've learned some foreign languages, and I completely understand what might be difficult for you to start speaking a new language. Regarding my previous teaching experience, I have worked as a Mandarin teacher for more than 4 years in an NGO, and aimed to train foreign students mostly in oral conversation skills. I have experiences as a private tutor for both native and non-native students, to help them with Mandarin or Classical Chinese.
In addition, I have been working with languages for more than 5 years, as I worked as a translator, high school Arabic teacher, and English private tutor before.
Majoring in regional studies and writing my thesis on language teaching, now I am a full-time Master's student at UiO. Meanwhile I work as a freelance translator, writer, and private tutor.
Regarding the conversation skills, it's easiest to practice with a native speaker on a daily basis! If you also want to learn how to read or write, there's no other way but intensive practicing.
I recommend you to have a two-hour session twice a week, if you don't have spare time to practice it on your own, or want to learn the language as fast as possible. Otherwise, a two-hour session once a week would be just enough.
