Dr. Cher believes that people working together can achieve anything they set their mind to, and she is passionately committed to creating a better tomorrow in partnership with others.
A citizen of the world with a positive, informed and open-minded attitude, Cher has spent her whole life seeking new challenges and helping others achieve their goals and dreams. Born and raised in China, Cher is a long-time Australian citizen who knows how to fit in—and how to stand out. Her unique life experiences help Cher to see problems clearly, make the right decisions at the right time, turn words into actions, and bring out the best in people. Fluent in English and Mandarin, and competent in Cantonese, Cher is a leader in the fields of performing arts practice, education and research, business management, and sales negotiation.
Cher lives in Camberwell with her partner and their two teenage children. In her leisure time, she enjoys yoga, walking the family dogs, reading thrillers, and watching Hollywood movies.
Cher spent her early years in China. By the time she was 15, she had established herself as a professional actress, director, and writer through numerous theatrical and TV productions. Intent on developing her career to international standard, and looking to wider horizons, Cher studied acting and directing at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Central Academy of Drama (Beijing).
Cher’s next step was on to the world stage. Taking employment as a ringmaster, for the next seven years she toured with the Great Moscow Circus and International Star Circus across China, Singapore, and Hong Kong. At the same time, her ambition to learn and grow burning within her, she took the initiative to discover more about the business side of the circus. By 2001, she was the manager of marketing and sales for the Great Moscow Circus (Worldwide Entertainment Hong Kong and Edgley International).
Embracing the challenge of moving to Australia, Cher set herself a new goal of improving her English and deepening her knowledge of the Western world. In 2012, Cher was awarded a Ph.D. from Griffith University for her thesis The Bridge Between and Swell: Writing Difference in Feature-Film Scriptwriting for National Production and International Co-Production. Bridging the divide between the creative arts and business, Cher’s Ph.D. is another example of the breadth of her professional talents and her ability to think outside the box and act across borders.
