Private Chinese / Mandarin Tutor in Calgary and Online

I am a certified teacher in Alberta and British Columbia and a native Mandarin speaker with over ten years of teaching experience in Canada and international schools. Having been educated in both China and Canada, I understand language learning from both a teacher's and a learner's perspective.

Over the years, I have taught Mandarin to learners of different ages, backgrounds, and proficiency levels, from complete beginners to advanced and IB students. My experience includes teaching in Canadian schools as well as international schools in Vancouver and Dubai, where I have worked extensively with the IB PYP, MYP, and DP programmes.

I believe that one of the biggest challenges in learning Chinese is finding the right teacher and a learning approach that works for you. Mandarin may seem difficult at first, but with clear explanations, meaningful practice, and consistent encouragement, it can become much more manageable—and enjoyable!

My lessons are tailored to each student's goals and level. Depending on what you would like to achieve, we can focus on conversational Mandarin, pronunciation and tones, vocabulary and grammar, reading and writing Chinese characters, academic Chinese, or preparation for school and IB assessments. I particularly enjoy helping students become more confident using Mandarin in real-life communication rather than simply memorizing vocabulary.

I am friendly, open-minded, patient, and encouraging, but I also believe successful language learning is a partnership. I can provide you with the structure, strategies, feedback, and support you need, while regular practice between lessons will help you make the greatest progress.

Whether you are learning Mandarin for school, work, travel, cultural interest, or simply because you have always wanted to learn the language, I would be happy to support you on your journey.

Let's make learning Mandarin an enjoyable and rewarding experience together!
