Hi, my name is Kate, a Mandarin-Chinese tutor from Taiwan. I got a TCSOL and TQUK teaching certificate issued by the US and the UK training institute respectively. I can teach both simplified and traditional characters. I got a degree in English literature and I am currently learning German and French. Last year, I was teaching at LTL language school in Taipei where I got to meet students from around the world. Before the pandemic, I was working as a flight attendant with Singapore Airlines. Having the opportunities to travel and experience different cultures before, I acquired some knowledge to design interesting lessons for my students. Learning languages is fun. Languages reflect so much about the ideology, culture, and living environment of a group of people and countries. I am currently mainly teaching online and most of my students are from America. However, I hope I can meet more local students. In my lessons, you will learn about grammar structure, PinYin, and Chinese radicals if you are a beginner. If you are an intermediate, I will strengthen your grammatical knowledge and design some real-life scenarios for you to practice speaking. If you are at an advanced level, we will discuss deeper topics such as culture, climate change, world issues, politics, or any other of your preferences:)

Is Chinese / Mandarin easy to learn?

To be honest, Chinese/ Mandarin is not an easy language. Unlike other language, which words are spelt phonetically, one needs to memorize the sound, the image and the meaning of a Chinese character. However, the good new is, in terms of grammar structure, Chinese grammar is not so complicated as a lot of European languages. Once you know the basic Chinese grammar rule, you can easily make and speak sentences.

Is it difficult to learn Chinese / Mandarin in Berlin?

Compared to the US, UK and Australia, there are much less Chinese immigrants in Europe. There is no China town in Berlin either to experience Chinese culture. But thanks to the convenience of the Internet, you can watch some videos or listen to some podcasts to learn about Chinese culture:)
