Learning a new language and feeling confident to speak it can be hard. I understand this very well, having attended language courses in more than 7 languages ranging from English to Slovak, including Chinese, Russian, Portuguese, Basque, French, Arabic, and Braille alphabets. However, we can tailor the lessons to your personal interests and you will definitely feel more comfortable with some guidance :)
In my family, we live and breathe the language. My parents are writers and have been teaching Catalan to foreigners who are newcomers or native speakers who want to improve their Catalan for over 40 years. I have grown up speaking Catalan and am passionate about linguistics, and now I want to be able to convey my love for languages to others.
Not really. I only know one person speaking Catalan in Bratislava, and she is still learning the language.
It depends mainly on your mother tongue and the languages you are fluent in. Also on your tutor and how much he/she can personalize the lessons to you ;) Catalan definitely does NOT have the complexity of the Chinese writing system, the general omission of vowels in the Arabic script, the ancient isolated originality of Basque, the seven cases of Slovak, or the Russian endless combinations of verbs for movement! If you are familiar with a Romance language like Italian, Portuguese or Spanish, you can more or less imagine how difficult it is to learn Catalan, and guess many of its words. If you know English at an academic or formal level, you'll find out that a lot of the words you currently use have Latin roots, which is also the case with most of the Catalan vocabulary.
