The two best ways to learn Catalan are to practice with native speakers or through immersion in media such as watching TV3 (Catalan television channel), listening to Catalan radio or podcasts, following Catalan YouTubers or TikTokers, or, finally, although the most difficult to start with, changing the language of your phone to Catalan.
Is it difficult to learn Catalan in Barcelona?
Not really, Barcelona is actually one of the best places to learn it.
Catalan is considered moderately easy for English speakers and very easy if you already speak Spanish or another Romance language. In Barcelona you’ll hear Catalan everywhere (public transport, schools, institutions, TV), so immersion happens naturally.
The only challenge is that many locals switch to Spanish automatically when they hear you're not fluent yet, but if you tell them you want to practice Catalan, they will help you to learn.
