Hello everyone! I’m Jasmin from Hong Kong. As a half-Thai and a graduate in Spanish/English translation, I’ve benefited greatly from my bilingual family background and developed a solid understanding of linguistics through my studies. I’m excited to begin my online teaching journey, focusing on my mother tongue—Cantonese.
Whether you're completely new to Cantonese or have some basic understanding of Chinese languages, it's important to note that although Cantonese shares similarities with the Chinese languages used in Mainland China and Taiwan, it stands apart in key areas. The writing system, grammar, and especially pronunciation are significantly different from Putonghua (Mandarin), which is why Cantonese is recognized as a distinct language.
I look forward to helping you explore and enjoy the richness of Cantonese! 😊
Yes. Since there is not many Hongkongers living in Tokyo, it’s hard for the people to find a Cantonese tutor in Tokyo.
It depends. But I don’t think Japanese people have to take a very long time to learn basic Cantonese. Since Japanese people already having a solid acknowledgment with Kanji which is a bit similar with the traditional Chinese writing system. The only thing have to pay more attention is the pronunciation, there are 9 tones in Cantonese, even though there is only one character but different pronunciation makes totally different meanings.
